The History of our Lobsterfest
Almost forty years ago on a hillside in Prince Edward Island a rickety old church was holding it's annual picnic to celebrate the opening of the lobster season.
The air was full of laughter and fiddle music. Dance executed as only down-easterners can. This was a fortunate time for the Rotary Club of Kitchener-Conestoga as one of our charter members, Harold Freure, was there at that event. As more and more plump, meaty lobsters were dropped into the cauldrons of boiling water and seaweed and butter dripped down many a chin, Harold remarked to his wife Heidi: "we could take this great idea back home as a fund raiser!" Thus was born our annual Lobsterfest at Bingeman's.
Thirty eight years and thousands of heavenly lobsters later, our Rotary Club is still raising funds for its World Community Service Committee through the sheer fun of Lobsterfest.

| This committee over the years has been able to multiply the funds raised by as much as eight-fold through the matching grant programmes of Rotary International and our Canadian Government. These monies have enabled us to supply an ambulance, build a clinic, generate electricity, and dig a well all in West Kenya. We have built water catchments up in the jungle mountains of Honduras and created an actual water utility for the villagers. But this is only two of scores of projects we have accomplished. |
Through your buying a Lobsterfest ticket, you help us to save lives, give others hope and improve their quality of life. What could be more noble than to help someone you will quite likely never meet? The Rotary Club of Kitchener-Conestoga believes it must help. And we will help. So please participate and celebrate with us and the king of seafood. Get a little butter on your chin and laugh with your friends knowing you have lent a hand. |
| Rotary Lobsterfest is the 1st Friday of June every year. Come & enjoy! Bingemans is located at 425 Bingemans Centre Drive, Kitchener and we are in Marshall Hall. |
