Opportunity International Micro Enterprise Project

The project in the Dominican Republic has been fulfilled, and we are now involved in Peru helping "The poorest of the economically active poor" to create businesses through credit from local Trust Banks. Trust Banks are credit groups of 20 -30 people who are among the working poor of their community, who co-guarantee each other's micro-loans (instead of having to put up collateral). Loans to Trust Bank clients start at $150. Solidarity groups are comprised of 4 -7 poor entrepreneurs whose businesses can absorb larger loan amounts. Individual loans are granted to entrepreneurs who can provide collateral for an even larger loan. Our hope is that the clients with the help of Opportunity's training and support, will graduate from Trust Banks to individual loans.
